Prediction: LASK vs Liverpool

Best odds: 10/11

Bookmaker:

They may have hoped to qualify for the Champions League as their previously woeful results picked up towards the end of last season, but it was too late and Liverpool will play in the Europa League this term instead. In the Austrian football landscape, the Red Bull Salzburg team continues to be the dominant force, leaving Sturm Graz and LASK to compete for the title of best of the rest. LASK fell short in that race in 2023/24, and it was Sturm who advanced into the Champions League qualifications.

Liverpool 0-1 Crystal Palace: Talking points as Eagles ruin Reds title charge again

Expected to give some kind of response after suffering a 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Atalanta three days before, Liverpool hosted Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday as they aimed to salvage their position in the title race.

However, the home side put their supporters through another batch of frustration, with the visitors walking away with the whole prize as Eberechi Eze scored the only goal of the game in the 14th minute.

The game

Things started rather worryingly again for the Reds, as Palace threatened early on. Alisson Becker, freshly returned from injury, was forced to react to a dangerous cross from Tyrick Mitchell and save a rather feeble shot from Eberechi Eze. And just as it looked Jurgen Klopp s team were starting to gain control over the proceed…

UEFA plans to use VAR in 2019-20 Champions League

UEFA plans to introduce video assistant referees (VAR) to the Champions League next season.

VAR was brought in for several domestic competitions across Europe last term and was then in use at the World Cup, but UEFA held off on its implementation in its flagship tournament for the current campaign.

However, president Aleksander Ceferin has suggested that, while there are no guarantees, UEFA aims to bring VAR in for the 2019-20 season.

VAR is not completely clear for now but we also know there is no way back any more, he said.

It is much more problematic than it looks. We really have a huge territory. The plan is to do it for next season but let s see what happens. I don t want to predict anything 100 per cent.

The suggestion is that VAR would b…

De Zerbi praised the maturity of the 18-year-old full-back as he likened him to stand-in Albion skipper Gross, who assisted the decisive goal, having cancelled out Bryan Mbeumo’s penalty.

“He played another great game,” the Italian coach said of Hinshelwood.

“He deserves to play now because he plays like an older player.

“Yesterday I said Jack is Pascal Gross…
